Bangkok, Thailand — August 1, 2025: Thailand’s Ministry of Defence has officially confirmed its acceptance of Cambodia’s proposals regarding the upcoming extraordinary meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC), scheduled to be held in Malaysia from August 4 to 7, 2025.
In a formal response dated August 1, General Nattaphon Narkphanit (Ret.), Deputy Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Thailand, expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s agreement on both the venue and the meeting duration.
Thailand also accepted the participation of representatives from Malaysia—as current ASEAN Chair—the United States of America, and the People’s Republic of China as observers at the GBC meeting. These observers will join the session on August 7, the final day of the meeting.
“I would like to convey my appreciation to all parties involved in making these preparations possible, especially the Malaysian side for their excellent coordination in arranging this important meeting,” General Narkphanit stated in the letter addressed to General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia, who also chairs the Cambodia General Border Committee.
Thailand’s defence leadership expressed hope for a “constructive, fruitful, and pragmatic outcome” from the meeting, which is expected to focus on easing tensions and enhancing cooperation along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
